Domestic Violence is a term used to define a pattern of physical, emotional and/or sexual tactics used intentionally by a person to gain and maintain control over a partner. Some physical tactics include punching, choking, pushing and restraining. Examples of emotional abuse include name-calling, put-downs, threats and isolation. Sexual abuse can include withholding physical intimacy, unwanted touching or fondling, coercion and rape.

Domestic Violence can happen in any dating or intimate partner relationship whether same-gender or heterosexual. 90-95% of all domestic violence involves men perpetrating violence against women. WomenSafe serves people across the gender spectrum who experience domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence and stalking.
