Here are some of the ways you can help WomenSafe
by volunteering your time:

Each fall we hold our annual Volunteer Training. Completing the entire training will qualify you to work directly with our service-users in these positions:

Hotline worker
Provide advocacy, support and resources to callers on our confidential 24-hour hotline. The hotline can be answered in your home or via pager through an answering service. The hotline worker position requires a commitment of at least 4 shifts a month (including one weekend) for a full year.

Court Advocate
Assist with WomenSafe’s court education program and provide advocacy and support for women during final Relief from Abuse hearings. The commitment consists of one morning per week at the courthouse.

Support Group Co-Facilitator
Co-facilitate peer led support groups for women who have been victims of domestic or sexual violence (one afternoon or evening a week).

Childcare Provider
Provide childcare one afternoon or evening a week for children of women who are attending support group. Provide childcare for children of service users during final Relief from Abuse hearings on an as needed basis.
Public Awareness and Outreach Assistant
Assist staff with campaigns such as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Violence Awareness Month and/or outreach to High School and Middle School students. Duties and time requirements vary depending on project.

Supervised Visitation Monitor
Supervise court ordered visits between children victims of domestic violence and a non-custodial parent.
Youth Outreach Presentation Facilitator
Assist staff in presenting outreach programming to teens and young adults about sexual and/or domestic violence issues. College age men and women are encouraged to apply. Time requirements will vary.

Other volunteer opportunities that do not require completion of the entire training (but we highly recommend it!) are:

Administrative Assistant
Assist with many office tasks such as maintaining agency data base, typing documents, photocopying, filing, etc. Time commitment is flexible.

Special Events Volunteer
Assist staff with campaigns such as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Violence Awareness Month and with fundraising efforts such as our Annual Appeal, and Mother’s Day Campaign. Time commitment is dependent on specific event.

Newsletter Editor/Publisher
Work with staff to compile and publish The Advocate, WomenSafe’s quarterly newsletter. The more computer knowledge you have, the better! Time commitment is flexible.

If you are interested in becoming a WomenSafe volunteer, please call the agency at 388-9180. We will send you an application and more specific information about volunteer positions and training. Please remember that in order to work directly with service users you must complete the entire training!
